GODSMACK Mixing Live Album, Recording Cover Songs
December 15, 2011GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna tells Dave Wedge of BostonHerald.com that the band is heading back to the studio in January to mix a live disc and record a handful of cover songs that Erna says "inspired us along the way." A spring tour with fellow Massachusetts rockers STAIND also is on tap.
Erna's December 16 solo performance at The Wilbur Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts will be professionally filmed for an upcoming 3D DVD release. The concert is also slated to air on Palladia, a cable music channel that ran a documentary about the making of his solo album "Avalon".
Regarding his past solo performances in support of "Avalon", Erna said, "Just like any other tour, it took us a week or a week and a half to get into a groove ... and polish the fluidity of the performance. But it came together because all the musicians in this band are so talented. ... It felt really like it grew internally for us, and externally for the audience it was smoother.”
He added, "It was very refreshing to see people get it. It really translated to people. Every night, there were people in the audience with tissues, wiping tears from their face. Other times, it was more of an uplifting vibe, and it was powerful and showed the power of music and what it can do when it’s presented the proper way."
Released in September 2010, "Avalon" features flutes, cellos, hand drums and other exotic instrumentation, along with female vocals. Erna has emphasized that it is "not a rock record."
